Talking libraries on ABC Radio's Nightlife

Thursday, 19 March 2015

ALIA Chief Executive, Sue McKerracher, and Acting Director Engagement and Partnerships State Library of Queensland, Jane Cowell, last night headlined on ABC Radio's Nightlife with Tony Delroy.

Presenter Tony Delroy introduced the item as a walk down the aisle of your local public library.

He was interested to understand how public libraries have evolved into multi-media, community spaces where you can build an app, study, take a class, borrow books and ebooks, audio and DVDs, perhaps record some music and get access to vast databases.

Tony explored how library funding has been squeezed as State Governments reduce funding and how some local Governments are struggling to fill the gap.

ALIA CEO Sue McKerracher called on State Governments to increase funding as communities are overwhelmingly positive about the services which libraries provide.
