What’s the story?

This recipe comes from a book of recipes and knitting patterns, 1891-1835, compiled by Annie Elisabeth ‘Bessie’ Sherrie (nee Hunter). Presented by her daughter, Heather Hunter Sherrie (b. 1891), librarian and past staff member of the Public Library of NSW, in 1983-1985.

Ingredients

1 Tablespoon butter

½ cup sugar

1 egg

1 cup Self Raising Flour

A little milk

Stewed Apples

Method

Beat butter and sugar to cream. Add well-beaten egg, then milk and flour. Put ½ in dish, layer with cold stewed apples with another layer of cake batter. Bake in moderate oven.
Serve with custard or cream as pudding.
